Slow Train Coming

A brief biography: by Ted
Slow Train Coming are a band of musicians and singers from Toowoomba on the Darling Downs in Queensland.
We have been playing together since before the turn of the Century. We have a vast repertoir of covers and play private functions and clubs in and around Toowoomba.
We have quite a number of original songs, spanning several different styles of music, from blues, to punk, country and dance numbers. We generally perform a selection of these at our gigs, along with re-worked covers of retro songs from the sixties, seventies and eighties.
We have a preference of sounding like Slow Train Coming, rather than sounding exactly like the original artists.
To achieve this we usually compile a different arrangement to cover songs, often adding original verses, changing the key, chord structure and patterns of songs, whilst maintaining the original melody and chorus. Our musical influences are wide and varied also. I prefer guitar-based music from the genres of Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Jeff Healy, while Terry prefers more poetic influences such as Bob Dylan, Paul Kelly and an assortment of early American blues singers.
John G likes Don McLean, James Taylor, Eagles and John K is a dedicated Phil Collins listener.
Our ages are also varied with the eldest being Terry born in 1950, and the youngest being John K born in 1980.

Currently Slow Train Coming is:
Ted Edwards: Guitars and vocals
John Grinham: Rhythm guitar, vocals
Terry Clark - Bass, harmonica, vocals
John Kochman: Drums
Essentially we are a band of musicians who write and play because of our love for live, loud music. We have played to audiences as small as 20 people and as large as 380 people. We are fully equipped with quality instruments and sound gear and ready to play with as little as two hours notice.
For the larger gigs we enlist the services of our friend and sound technician Jeff Dorr. Jeff has helped us record our CD at our practice room using his mixing desk and an ADAT recorder.
Jeff and I co-operated to engineer, mix and master the finished product, most of which was recorded live in the practice room with only the guitar solos and backing vocals added later.
These were recorded under Jeffs farm house. (If you listen very closely you may hear the crickets in the background.) I hope you enjoy listening to our CD. We have many more songs to record and will continue this process on an occasional basis.

Best regards
Ted Edwards.
